Il Museo MIIT di Torino presenta la prestigiosa mostra personale di Maria Pavlovska dal 5 al 21 marzo 2026, con inaugurazione giovedì 5 marzo dalle ore 18.00.

L’esposizione si colloca nel calendario degli eventi internazionali del Museo MIIT, proprio nei giorni della celebrata Festa della Donna, a sottolineare il contributo fondamentale delle artiste alla crescita culturale dei popoli.

“Maria Pavlovska è un’artista contemporanea ormai matura e risolta, perfettamente inserita nel contesto internazionale grazie alle sue molteplici presenza espositive nei principali eventi ed appuntamenti artistici in tutto il mondo. Stati Uniti e Asia, da Skopje a Lubiana, Belgrado, Vienna, Berlino, Parigi, New York, Manila, Miami, Venezia, Firenze, Torino, la sua arte affronta i temi della polarizzazione e del globalismo, così cari alla società contemporanea. L’arte di Pavlovska considera la pittura come un’estensione della propria esistenza, tra ombre, luce, felicità, dolore… E’ per questo che la sua arte assume significati così intensi e personali, intimi e potenti, rappresentando nel profondo la propria energia vitale, tra sogni, speranze, esplosioni di vitalità e rarefatti momenti di meditazione. Maria Pavlovska incarna perfettamente, con il suo lavoro, lo spirito della società contemporanea, sempre in bilico tra salvezza e dannazione e nel contrasto tonale e cromatico assoluto delle sue composizioni si ritrova il senso della vita in un dialogo continuo tra illusione e realtà.

Nei segni rapidi, gestuali, essenziali che squarciano le tenebre di fondo delle sue opere maggiori sembra di leggere un alfabeto dell’anima, in cui l’artista si esprime attraverso un linguaggio cifrato, criptico, che racconta però moltissimo della sua interiorità. Il bianco e il nero, il movimento vorticoso e continuo del segno altro non sono che il simbolo atavico dell’armonia e della complessità inafferrabile dell’universo, degli opposti che si confrontano e si completano, in una sorta di bilanciamento dell’energia vitale e creativa. L’osservatore può perdersi nel mondo poetico e creativo di Pavlovska, può ritrovare un po’ di se stesso, alla continua ricerca dell’Io, dell’essenza dell’Essere. L’utilizzo, da parte dell’artista, sia nei disegni, sia nelle opere maggiori, di colori puri come il bianco e il nero, la rende immediatamente riconoscibile a livello internazionale. Nel movimento inarrestabile del gesto l’artista declina il procedimento stesso della sua creazione, sempre in divenire, sempre basata sugli opposti, sull’idea di una sperimentazione che si fa vita e materia, percorso esistenziale e ricerca. Luce e buio, pieno e vuoto, bianco e nero si alternano, si sovrappongono, si scontrano in un disegno meditato, ‘sentito’ dall’artista, mai casuale, perché una tela, un foglio di carta diventano l’espressione della propria esistenza su cui modulare sentimenti ed emozioni. Spazio, tempo, misura, infinito sono altri elementi fondanti l’arte di Maria Pavlovska, perché è nella fusione e nell’interpretazione di tali elementi che Maria scopre il senso della creazione, della vita, dell’identità umana e divina. La sua è arte spirituale perché va alla ricerca dello spirito dell’uomo, cercando di coglierne l’essenza e la sintesi in un viaggio alla scoperta di se stessa e dell’altro. BIOGRAFIA

Il suo percorso artistico è iniziato in tenera età. Nata a Skopje, Macedonia (Jugoslavia), dopo gli studi ha iniziato a frequentare residenze e ha tenuto mostre personali a Parigi, Berlino, Slovenia, Vienna, Belgrado, Zagabria, Sarajevo, Norimberga (Germania) e New York. Dopo la sua prima personale a New York nel 2007, ha vissuto tra New York e Skopje, continuando a essere attiva sulla scena artistica newyorkese e internazionale. Le sue opere sono state esposte in tutto il mondo in oltre 30 mostre personali e più di 100 mostre collettive internazionali. Le sue opere sono state pubblicate su numerose riviste, articoli di giornale e cataloghi di musei e gallerie in tutto il mondo. Proveniente da una famiglia di artisti creativi – suo padre è uno stimato pittore (insignito del National Order of Merit Award for the Arts nel 2011 e del titolo di Artista Nazionale della Macedonia), sua sorella maggiore è una musicologa di spicco e sua sorella minore è una pianista classica internazionale – è evidente che la sua energia artistica è radicata nel tessuto stesso del suo essere. Pur beneficiando dell’illustre eredità culturale della sua famiglia, Maria ha ottenuto grandi riconoscimenti a pieno titolo. I critici hanno descritto il suo lavoro come dotato di “una forte personalità” che “traduce i temi da lei scelti in un linguaggio pittorico che dimostra un’eloquenza silenziosa e potente”. Ha ricevuto elogi dalla critica di tutto il mondo per i suoi disegni e dipinti, descritti come un campo di battaglia, dove luce e oscurità si scontrano e il risultato è imprevedibile. Si vedono i lampi delle idee all’opera, mentre vengono elaborate. Questa sorta di dialettica simultanea “processo/risultato” dell’immagine rimane congelata nello spazio, stimolando l’osservatore a partecipare attivamente alla creazione dell’immagine stessa attraverso l’indagine, invitando a innumerevoli letture all’interno di un dato tema. Titolare di un Dottorato di ricerca in studi culturali.

GRANDI EVENTI E FIERE

Il lavoro di Maria, riconosciuto a livello internazionale, è stato esposto al Medici Museum of Art (Ohio, USA) 2025, al Museum of Contemporary Art – MIIT (Torino, Italia) 2025, alla Biennale di Architettura di Venezia 2023 presso il Padiglione OSTEN, è stata invitata dal suo Comitato a partecipare alla XIII e XV Biennale di Firenze 2021 e 2025, ha partecipato alla 58a e 59a Biennale di Venezia 2019 e 2022 invitata dall’European Cultural Centre, ha partecipato alla Biennale di Disegno OSTEN 2019 e 2022 vincendo un premio per l’opera d’arte originale – Concept, nel 2020 è stata annunciata come ARTISTA DA TENERE D’OCCHIO da ESKFF – Eileen Kaminsky Family Foundation, USA: In conversazione con Eileen Kaminsky e l’artista Maria Pavlovska, Art Basel Miami nel 2014 rappresentata dal MANA Contemporary Museum – Art Centre, è stata premiata come Artista dell’Anno Citibank – una mostra personale annuale al 60° Filiale di St/5th Avenue a New York nel 2011, ha ricevuto anche il premio Carole A. Inoltre, nel 2024, Pavlovska ha vinto il Premio Internazionale LEONARDO DA VINCI/GOLD – Edizione Speciale di Efetto Arte Fondazione – Italia per l’attività internazionale e la presenza sul mercato internazionale. Nel 2025 ha ricevuto il riconoscimento: ARTISTA DELL’ANNO 2025 dalla stessa Fondazione. Ha ricevuto il PREMIO per lo sviluppo e il contributo nel campo dell’arte in Macedonia del Nord 2025 da OSTEN. Ha vinto il PREMIO SPECIALE WAVA (Associazione Mondiale delle Arti Visive) alla XV Biennale di Firenze 2025 per la migliore opera d’arte della Biennale in tutte le categorie. Nel 2024 Pavlovska ha ottenuto una rappresentanza esclusiva presso l’AP Space Gallery di New York, con una mostra personale inaugurata tra marzo e febbraio dello stesso anno. Nel 2025, l’opera OBJECT 04 ha fatto parte della mostra ZODIAC “Mysterious Power of the Creative” al Medici Museum of Art, Ohio, organizzata dalla Carole Feuerman Foundation. Nel corso della sua carriera, ha ricevuto 18 borse di studio internazionali per le arti. Dal 2012 il suo studio risiede presso il prestigioso MANA Contemporary, uno dei principali centri d’arte contemporanea.

Ha partecipato a Biennali d’Arte, Festival d’Arte e Open House, come la Biennale per Giovani Artisti presso il Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Skopje, Macedonia, la Biennale delle Miniature presso la Galleria Nazionale della Serbia, l’Ohrid Summer Festival e lo Struga Poetry Evenings Festival, Macedonia, la Biennale di Firenze e la Biennale di Venezia, Italia, la OSTEN Biennale del Disegno, Skopje, il Sarajevo Winter Festival (Sarajevska Zima), Bosnia, e le Open House del MANA Contemporary Museum, il Bushwick Open Studios, New York, USA. Ha inoltre partecipato alla prestigiosa Art Basel Miami, rappresentata da Mana Contemporary, dove ha esposto insieme a nomi prestigiosi come Julian Schnabel, Marina Abramovic, Yigal Ozeri, Ray Smith, Sante d’Orazio, Carole Feuerman, Eugene Lemay, ecc. In qualità di galleria che rappresenta e continua a collaborare con Pavlovska, nel 2025 sono stati pubblicati due nuovi volumi: “Black & White Diaries” e “Object Embryo”, opere giovanili dell’artista, nell’ambito delle edizioni della galleria. Pavlovska ha ricevuto il premio Carole A. Feuerman Sculpture Foundation USA, NY per la pittura alla mostra internazionale “Mixing Media” ospitata dalla Carole A. “Descriverei il lavoro di Pavlovska come un disegno dentro un quadro e un quadro dentro un disegno. In ogni opera usa olio, carboncino e matita, un metodo semplice ma al tempo stesso delicato. Piccoli graffi sono visibili su ogni pezzo, alludendo alla condizione primaria e fragile, ma non lasciano indifferenti. Descrivo questo graffio come un’esperienza insolita tipica di quest’autrice; ogni risultato disegna uno strato interno del dipinto un tempo nascosto e lo espone allo spettatore/al mondo. The MIIT Museum in Turin presents Maria Pavlovska’s prestigious solo exhibition from March 5 to 21, 2026, with the opening on Thursday, March 5, at 6:00 PM. The exhibition is part of the MIIT Museum’s international events calendar, coinciding with International Women’s Day, highlighting the fundamental contribution of female artists to the cultural growth of peoples.

“Maria Pavlovska is a mature and accomplished contemporary artist, perfectly integrated into the international scene thanks to her numerous exhibitions at major art events and gatherings around the world. In the United States and Asia, from Skopje to Ljubljana, Belgrade, Vienna, Berlin, Paris, New York, Manila, Miami, Venice, Florence, and Turin, her art addresses the themes of polarization and globalism, so dear to contemporary society. Pavlovska’s art considers painting as an extension of her own existence, amidst shadows, light, happiness, and pain. This is why her art takes on such intense and personal meanings, intimate and powerful, profoundly representing her own vital energy, amidst dreams, hopes, bursts of vitality, and rarefied moments of meditation. Maria Pavlovska perfectly embodies, with her work, the spirit of contemporary society, always poised between salvation and damnation, and in the stark tonal and chromatic contrasts of her compositions, the meaning of life is found in a continuous dialogue between illusion and reality.

In the rapid, gestural, essential strokes that pierce the underlying darkness of her major works, one can read an alphabet of the soul, in which the artist expresses herself through a coded, cryptic language that nevertheless reveals a great deal about her inner self. Black and white, the swirling, continuous movement of the stroke, are nothing less than the atavistic symbol of the harmony and elusive complexity of the universe, of opposites that confront and complement each other, in a sort of balancing of vital and creative energy. The observer can lose themselves in Pavlovska’s poetic and creative world, can rediscover a part of themselves, in a constant search for the Self, the essence of Being. The artist’s use of pure colors like black and white, both in her drawings and in her major works, makes her immediately recognizable internationally. In the unstoppable movement of her gesture, the artist expresses the very process of her creation, always evolving, always grounded in opposites, on the idea of ​​an experimentation that becomes life and matter, an existential journey and a quest. Light and dark, full and empty, black and white alternate, overlap, and collide in a thoughtful design, “felt” by the artist, never random, because a canvas, a sheet of paper, becomes the expression of her own existence, on which she modulates feelings and emotions. Space, time, measure, and infinity are other founding elements of Maria Pavlovska’s art, for it is in the fusion and interpretation of these elements that Maria discovers the meaning of creation, of life, of human and divine identity. Her art is spiritual because it seeks the human spirit, seeking to capture its essence and synthesis in a journey of self-discovery and that of others. BIOGRAPHY

Her artistic journey began at an early age. Born in Skopje, Macedonia (Yugoslavia), after her studies she began attending residencies and held solo exhibitions in Paris, Berlin, Slovenia, Vienna, Belgrade, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Nuremberg (Germany), and New York. After her first solo exhibition in New York in 2007, she lived between New York and Skopje, continuing to be active in the New York and international art scene. Her work has been exhibited worldwide in over 30 solo exhibitions and over 100 international group exhibitions. Her work has been published in numerous magazines, newspaper articles, and museum and gallery catalogs worldwide. Coming from a family of creative artists—her father is an esteemed painter (awarded the National Order of Merit Award for the Arts in 2011 and the title of National Artist of Macedonia), her older sister is a prominent musicologist, and her younger sister is an international classical pianist—it’s clear that her artistic energy is ingrained in the very fabric of her being. While benefiting from her family’s illustrious cultural heritage, Maria has achieved great recognition in her own right. Critics have described her work as possessing “a strong personality” that “translates her chosen themes into a pictorial language that demonstrates a quiet and powerful eloquence.” She has received praise from critics around the world for her drawings and paintings, which have been described as a battlefield, where light and darkness collide and the outcome is unpredictable. One can see the flashes of ideas at work, as they are being developed. This sort of simultaneous “process/result” dialectic of the image remains frozen in space, stimulating the observer to actively participate in the creation of the image itself through investigation, inviting countless interpretations within a given theme. Feuerman Sculpture Foundation in 2015, the AAmA Award for New Frontier Contribution 2021, China (18th AAmA – International Exhibition of Asian, American and Mediterranean Art, with the participation of 82 artists from 55 countries), the First Prize for Original Artwork – Concept at the OSTEN Biennial of Drawing 2022, the International DONATTELLO Award, the International LEONARDO DA VINCI Award (Universal Artist), the International PEGASUS FOR THE ARTS Award, the International MICELANGELO Award, received the CAREER ART Award from Efetto Arte Fondazione – Italy in 2023 and was also selected for the platform: 50 ARTISTS TO INVEST. Furthermore, in 2024, Pavlovska won the LEONARDO DA VINCI/GOLD International Award – Special Edition from Efetto Arte Fondazione – Italy for her international activity and presence on the international market. In 2025, she received the ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2025 award from the same Foundation. She received the AWARD for Development and Contribution to the Field of Art in North Macedonia 2025 from OSTEN. She won the WAVA (World Association of Visual Arts) SPECIAL PRIZE at the XV Florence Biennale 2025 for the best artwork of the Biennale in all categories. In 2024, Pavlovska obtained exclusive representation at AP Space Gallery in New York, with a solo exhibition opening in March and February of that year. In 2025, the work OBJECT 04 was part of the ZODIAC exhibition “Mysterious Power of the Creative” at the Medici Museum of Art, Ohio, organized by the Carole Feuerman Foundation. Throughout his career, he has received 18 international arts grants. Since 2012, his studio has been located at the prestigious MANA Contemporary, a leading contemporary art center. He has participated in art biennials, art festivals, and open houses, such as the Biennial for Young Artists at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje, Macedonia, the Miniature Biennial at the National Gallery of Serbia, the Ohrid Summer Festival and the Struga Poetry Evenings Festival, Macedonia, the Florence Biennale and the Venice Biennale, Italy, the OSTEN Drawing Biennial, Skopje, the Sarajevo Winter Festival (Sarajevska Zima), Bosnia, and the Open Houses of the MANA Contemporary Museum and Bushwick Open Studios, New York, USA. He also participated in the prestigious Art Basel Miami, represented by Mana Contemporary, where he exhibited alongside prestigious names such as Julian Schnabel, Marina Abramovic, Yigal Ozeri, Ray Smith, Sante d’Orazio, Carole Feuerman, Eugene Lemay, and others. Some of his works are present in prestigious private and public collections around the world, including government institutions, embassies, museums, galleries, and libraries.

Pavlovska’s work on the cover, Bodega, New York, USA (2012), “Bodega Anthology III … Pavlovska on the cover, Bodega, New York, USA (2014), “Theia Mania”, Dallas Athent – poetry and prose, with drawings by M. Pavlovska, Black Square Edition, AntiSentiMental Society, New York, USA (2016). The book “Theia Mania” was, according to Joanna C. Valente of Luna Luna Magazine, New York, one of the 20 best books of 2017 in the United States. Recognizing that drawings are the predominant feature of Pavlovska’s work, in 2015 the Drawing Rooms Gallery NJ-New York, after organizing three exhibitions of the artist, published a monograph on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, “Reaction/ Drawing Cycles 2005-2015” (Victory Hall Press NY), including Pavlovska in its editions. As a gallery representing and continuing to collaborate with Pavlovska, two new volumes were published in 2025: “Black & White Diaries” and “Object Embryo,” featuring the artist’s early works, as part of the gallery’s publications. Pavlovska received the Carole A. Feuerman Sculpture Foundation USA, NY Award for Painting at the international exhibition “Mixing Media” hosted by the Carole A. Feuerman Sculpture Foundation in 2015. Her works were selected and participated in the international exhibition “10 Woman Artists Show: Senses and Perceptions, 10 Women International Exhibition” (Carole Feuerman Foundation, NY) at the MANA Contemporary Museum USA in 2017. In 2019, Pavlovska published her debut as an author: the monograph “First Principle – On Drawing” in Macedonian, published by MAGOR Publishing House, Skopje, North Macedonia. His doctoral thesis, defended in 2016, was translated into the monograph: DRAWING as the Foundation of Works of Art of Different Artistic Styles in Various Historical Periods / An Investigation of Drawing from the Dawn of History to the Present Day.

“I would describe Pavlovska’s work as a drawing within a painting and a painting within a drawing. In each work, she uses oil, charcoal, and pencil, a simple yet delicate method. Small scratches are visible on each piece, alluding to the primal and fragile condition, but they do not leave one indifferent. I describe this scratching as an unusual experience typical of this artist; each result draws out a previously hidden inner layer of the painting and exposes it to the viewer/the world. In some works, these scratches and strokes transform into writing. Working primarily in black and white, Pavlovska has recently begun a new love affair in red. For her, every image is synonymous with poetry. Her awareness and intimacy in each work are evident, as if she were looking at an old friend, with a familiar story about the other’s birth, yet still uncertain and curious about her origins.
